Bellevue Plantation House, Barbados

Bellevue Plantation House

Located in Waterford in the south-east of Barbados, family owned Bellevue Plantation House is set within three acres of secluded woodland, sweeping lawns and lush tropical vegetation. It is just 20 minutes from the international airport and 10 minutes from the famed west coast beaches and Holetown.

Bellevue has a strong British heritage which dates back to the 18th century. The House, spread over 10,000 square feet, was built between 1735 and 1750, making it one of the first plantations in Barbados.

Its British owners, Paul and Sarah, have sensitively refurbished the property in 2008 to reflect an ambience of informal modern luxury in the grand style of a bygone era. Many features of the original style have been maintained, including the dual stairway leading to the large wrap-around verandah on the second floor.

The property’s full-service team are on hand to handle all requests. Whether for families or groups, Bellevue offers an authentic Caribbean experience.

Accommodation

The original house was the square Georgian block so prevalent throughout the British Colonial islands. However, the term ‘Caribbean Georgian’ was coined to describe the many delightful, tropical touches to this style that evolved in Barbados and the West Indies – the use of limestone, the adding of verandahs and galleries, raising the house over a full basement, imposing exterior stairs, push-out windows and jalousies shutters – all of which can be seen to beautiful effect at Bellevue.

Bellevue Plantation House exudes history, charm and authenticity. Paul and Sarah have delicately created a Caribbean haven with a modern touch and offer an excellent level of service to their guests.

The property features the main house with 6 guest suites, three of which are en-suite and lead to their own private balcony for sunset cocktails. In addition, there are two self-catering cottages in the gardens, providing two more guest rooms.

The large family room, dining room with adjoining terrace, the swimming pool and deck, all nestled in three acres of tropical gardens to create a spacious, carefree and peaceful Caribbean retreat for guests.
